Upload is Prime Video’s version of Metaverse—afterlife edition. This sci-fi comedy show is set in 2033 where society is so technologically advanced that hologram phones and 3D food printers exist. Furthermore, humans can choose to be “uploaded” into a virtual afterlife. Very meta, I know. The story revolves around a computer programmer named Nathan who prematurely dies and gets uploaded to Lakeview, a very luxurious virtual afterlife. In season 1, Nathan finds himself adjusting to the Lakeview afterlife lifestyle whilst dealing with his possessive girlfriend, Ingrid, who he left behind in the physical world. While living in Lakeview, Nathan bonds with his living customer service representative, Nora. Meanwhile, Nora has problems of her own—her high-pressure job, dying father, and her growing feelings for Nathan who she also believed was murdered.

The series stars Robbie Amell (The Duff) as Nathan Brown, Andy Allo (Pitch Perfect 3, Chicago Fire) as Nora Anthony, Allegra Edwards (Briar Patch) as Ingrid Kannerman, comedian Zainab Johnson as Nora’s friend, Aleesha, and Kevin Bigley (The Dilemma, The Angry Birds Movie) as Luke, another Lakeview resident.

What to Expect in Season Two

In season two, Ingrid has unexpectedly uploaded herself on Lakeview in hopes to patch things up with Nathan. However, our computer geek Nathan finds himself secretly yearning for his customer service angel Nora. Nora, on the other hand, is off-grid and gets involved with an anti-tech rebel group called “The Ludds.” Meanwhile, Lakeview residents get a new in-app digital baby program called, “Prototykes.” All of these plus a whole lot of messy technological advances, headaches, and chaos in between that will make Upload season two better than the first.
