Amerisleep has been named as the best king size mattress of 2022 by mattress experts EachNight. Another of the brand’s mattress models – the Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid – was also rated as the best soft king size mattress in the same list ranking.

Some of the other featured categories for king size mattresses include the best hybrid mattress, the best mattress for athletes and the best memory foam alternative mattress. These mattresses also vary in price, with some brands costing around $500 and others costing up to $5200.

What are the different types of king size mattresses?

A standard king size mattress measures 76 inches by 80 inches. It is the equivalent of two twin beds that have been pushed together. King mattresses are wider than queen mattresses, but they measure the same length. There are other types of king sized mattresses, including a California King, which is 76 inches by 80 inches and an Alaskan King, which is the largest king size mattress at 108 inches by 108 inches.

King size mattresses fit into the majority of master bedrooms, which are usually around 14 by 16 feet (224 square feet). Many couples choose to buy a king size mattress for their room to minimize motion disruption that can occur when their partner moves during the night.

Top king size mattresses of 2022

Amerisleep AS3 has been rated as the best king size mattress overall due to its breathable and supportive memory foam layers. The top layer consists of Bio-Pur®, a plant-based foam that reduces motion transfer. It has been awarded CertiPUR-US® certification, which means that the foam doesn’t release harmful gases.

Further down is a layer of HIVE® technology, which is designed to give compression support to the sleeper’s joints and to help prevent them from sinking too far into the mattress.

The second Amerisleep model to feature on the list is the Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid. This model is slightly pricier than the AS3, although the AS5 Hybrid has three inches of comfort layer rather than the two-inch layer that AS3 has. It also includes a patented spring coil system, which is designed to relieve pressure points and maximize comfort. The Active Flex foam that is on top of the pocket springs prevents the sleeper from sinking too far into the soft mattress, however.

Zoma is the second mattress brand that has more than one model featured on this list. The Zoma mattress has been ranked as the best memory foam mattress, whilst the Zoma Hybrid is considered to be the best mattress in a hybrid style of both memory foam and pocketed coils.

The Zoma mattress was originally designed for athletes, which is why it is a good choice if you suffer from issues such as back or joint pain. The memory foam mattress minimizes motion transfer and the Triangulex™ technology helps to support heavier parts of the body, such as legs and shoulders. Underneath is a Reactiv™ layer, which registers the sleeper’s changing positions and adjusts to accommodate them.

Not everyone is fond of traditional memory foam mattresses, which is why the Nolah Signature 12 is a good option. It has been named as the best memory foam alternative mattress, thanks to the cooling AirFoam™ that helps provide pressure relief. The next layer of latex foam gives the mattress bounce. Alternatively, it can be flipped so that the firm mattress side is facing upwards and gives more support to the spine and joints.

The Purple® Hybrid Premier has been ranked as the best luxury king size mattress. It is one of the most expensive mattresses on the list, with prices ranging between $2099 to $5198. Each mattress features the Purple Grid™ design is made from Hyper-Elastic Polymer® that responds to the sleeper’s shifting positions throughout the night. The hybrid mattress also features a 7.5-inch coil support base which helps extend the mattress’ durability.

Hybrid mattresses combine the soft cushioning aspect of memory foam with the support that is given by pocket sprung mattresses. The coils are zoned so that they give the correct support to your shoulders, hips and legs.

Some sleepers get too hot during the night, especially if they share the bed with someone else. The Bear Pro, which was rated as the best mattress for athletes, is made using three different temperature-controlling layers. This includes a gel layer infused with copper, a Celliant® cover that draws heat and moisture away from the body and a comfort layer that is made with cooling gel.

Not only does copper conduct heat and cool down the bed, but it also acts as an anti-bacterial and anti-viral. The mattress is therefore kept cleaner and smelling fresher for longer. Many of the mattresses on this list include removable covers which make it easier to clean them.

The Avocado Green Mattress has been voted as the best king size latex mattress by EachNight. Latex offers more bounce than memory foam and it is also a good eco-friendly alternative as the materials are sustainably sourced. This material is also hypoallergenic and doesn’t attract dust mites, which makes it the perfect option for people who suffer from allergies.

The mattress firmness of this model is medium-firm, which means that it is firm enough to support and improve muscle recovery whilst still being soft enough to make the sleeper feel comfortable. Medium-firm mattresses are an ideal firmness level for king size beds as they help to keep the spine in a healthy alignment and limit pressure point build-up.
