Following a dramatic Season 4 finale, fans are left wondering why Rudy Pankow’s character is not making a return to Season 5 following alleged behind-the-scenes drama claims.

November 11, 2024– This TikTok video posted by user @outerbnckks has gone viral with over 1.4 million views following Pankow’s death in Season 4 of Outer Banks. The finale shocked users who were not expecting one of the core characters to be killed off in the season. This TikTok video reportedly includes alleged information from user obxanon on Tumblr. Allegedly, this user claimed Pankow’s character “JJ” would die in Season 4 back in August, which has sparked speculation about what is true or not following the claims made online.
As a result, rumors began swirling regarding what led to this writing decision to kill off Pankow’s character, and whether it could have something to do with Pankow’s girlfriend, Elaine Siemek.

As the TikTok video claims, alleged drama occurred between Bailey and Pankow, who played on-screen love interests in the popular Netflix series. This is reportedly a reason that led to Pankow asking to “leave the show.” The writers allegedly did not plan his exit but he didn’t want to renew which is what supposedly led to him being killed off of the series.
The supposed drama between Pankow and Bailey has not been revealed as it remains a private matter. However, claims allege that Bailey hurt Pankow “emotionally” which seemingly subsequently caused tension between the two. Since they couldn’t avoid each other on screen as they played love interests, they did so -off-screen. It remains unclear how Bailey allegedly “hurt” Pankow but there are rumors that his feelings for her were not reciprocated.

However, this remains unknown as both Bailey and Pankow are in relationships. Bailey has been linked to basketball player Mariah Linney since 2020. Supposedly, when the cast found out about Pankow’s departure from the show, there was allegedly a dramatic shift in chemistry between his character and Bailey’s. The pair- Pankow and Bailey- were reportedly not close on set.
Allegedly, there was also on-set drama that involved Pankow’s girlfriend, Siemek, and Lilah Pate (daughter of Jonas Pate, one of the three creators of Outer Banks). However, this remains a rumor as the supposed drama that took place has not been revealed. Supposedly, Siemek was uncomfortable with Bailey and Pankow’s romantic scenes from the show.

JJ died at the end of Outer Banks Season 4 but this has not stopped fan theories from alleging his character could make a comeback in the fifth season.
