Shakira’s statue was inaugurated in her hometown in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Shakira has won many awards in her career. Now, she was honoured with a giant statue this time. The bronze statue is 21-foot tall and was inaugurated on Tuesday in Barranquilla, Colombia. Shakira’s parents, sculptor Yino Marquez and Jaime Pumarejo, Mayor of Barranquilla, attended the unveiling ceremony.

The statue is designed by sculptor Yino Marquez with the support of students of the District School of Arts. It depicts her in a position made iconic by her “Hips Don’t Lie” music video in 2005. Shakira posted a tweet on her X, thanking them for the statue.

Shakira posted pictures and a video of the ceremony on Instagram. In the caption, she revealed that the statue was inaugurated on her mother’s birthday.

The plague under the statue says, “A heart that composes, hips that do not lie, an unmatched talent, a voice that moves masses and bare feet that march for the good of childhood and humanity.”

Ends with, “The aluminum end of her skirt symbolizes the waves of the sea and the river. Her raised arms and vertically clasped hands represent the reach of transcendence.”

However, the new Shakira statue is not the only statue in Barranquilla. In 2006, sculptor Dieter Patt crafted a 16-foot-tall as a tribute to the singer.
