Marketa Vondrousova has become the first unseeded women’s champion in the history of Wimbledon. She is ranked as 42nd in the world and beat out the favorite Ons Jabeur who is ranked 6th. Check out her winning moment from Wimbledon’s official Twitter page!

Just after receiving her trophy, Vondrousova stood on the court and said, “After everything I’ve been through, it’s amazing I can stand here and hold this, Tennis is crazy.” Referring to previous injuries, she added, “The comebacks aren’t easy, you never know what to expect. I was playing small tournaments and hoped to come back at this level.”

It has been sixty years since an unseeded woman reached the finals at Wimbledon, the last being the legendary Billie Jean King who lost to Margaret Court in 1963.

But Vondrousova beat her high-ranked opponent, Ons Jabeur. Kate, The Princess of Wales, stepped down from the Royal Box, after the match, to comfort Jabeur.
