Netflix just released news regarding password sharing on the brand’s streaming platform. HOLR is breaking down what people are talking about on Reddit.
Netflix is cracking down on password sharing by implementing changes. HOLR is breaking it down below.
Netflix Shared Accounts
According to this article, “Without any official announcement, Netflix updated its support page Tuesday to detail how it plans to restrict users from sharing an account with folks outside their immediate household.”
This Yahoo! article states that Netflix’s help center updated the FAQ page for countries such as Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru regarding the crackdown on password sharing. Apparently, “Netflix accounts will remain shareable but only within one household” and the U.S. may be eligible next.
As mentioned in the article, Netflix will require users to identify a primary location for accounts that are part of the same household. As a result, users will be required to sign into the home wifi of the primary location at least once every 31 days. This will ensure the device is not blocked from the platform moving forward.
This may mean that if a device accesses the Netflix account from a device that is not part of the primary location or from a different location, it will likely be blocked. To counter this, primary account holders may be able to verify users through a temporary code that allows access for 7 days, as noted here. However, there are still some unknowns regarding Netflix password-sharing news and updates.
