This past year saw a monumental surge in pet ownership. A recent survey commissioned by Purina Beyond uncovered that a whopping 3.7 million (10%) of Canadians adopted, purchased, or fostered pets throughout the past year.

Whether seasoned pet parents or new to the world of pet ownership, they all had one thing in common: tons of questions on how to be the best pet owner they could be.

With questions around everything from health to preparing the home to nutrition, Purina wanted to go beyond for Canadians. They provided some answers to some of these questions with a virtual expert panel conversation.

The panel experts included Toronto-based veterinarian Dr. Bryan Gelman, dog behaviourist Deena Cooper, pet nutrition specialist Stacy Lynn Morley and MSC Chef ambassador, and traceability expert Charlotte Langley.

The group shared a lively discussion answering some questions posed by Canadians around pet parenting and everything in between on their journey through raising their cat or dog.

Some of the questions they answered were:

• What are the best ways to get my newly adopted rescue dog to feel accepted and part of the pack with our existing dog and cat?
• What are your best tips for separation anxiety in dogs? And why does ingredient traceability matter when it comes to food for my pet?
• If there’s a sudden change in eating habits for my cat or dog should I be worried?
