A change of weather is the perfect time for a change of style, from fashion to hair. While summer hair always makes us think of long beachy waves, recently influencers and the catwalk have had different ideas. Check out the following trends to draw on their inspiration.

Wet Look

The Kim Kardashian special and seen on the Chloe catwalk for SS19, the wet look is irresistible for a big occasion or special event. Wet look hair is a dramatic, super sexy, undone look that highlights natural cheekbones but can be difficult to pull off without overdoing it. Work hair gel from root to tip with a wide tooth comb, building it up until you achieve a high-shine gloss look, but avoiding too much saturation otherwise you’re at risk of edging into greasy. This is a look that works great with volume too, so try and work in some height when sweeping back the hair.

Micro Fringe

Also known as “baby bangs”, this look is super cute and has been tried out by Emma Roberts, Kaia Gerber, Arianna Grande and Beyonce (what a list!) while also being featured on the Prada catwalk. Now, we know this fringe is a brave move, so it might be smart to try out a temporary option to see if you are ready to take the plunge! It’s also worth remembering that fringe’s of any kind can be high maintenance but the reward of this high-attitude style is worth it.

Braids

Braids of all kinds are in this season. Try pressed braids – a crimped look achieved by braiding hair then straightening the braids before letting them out and brushing for extra volume. Or long braids, worn low, sleek and shiny and the longer the better – think little Mermaid style but high couture. We’ve also seen micro braids bring a level of intricate subtly and style to different looks.

Colour Shock

It’s time to play with colour, using as fun a shade as you dare. All shades of the rainbows have featured on the catwalk, with even lilac and grey trending. We also love the subtle pastels used by Marc Jacobs to bring a fresh look to vintage updos. To nail the right colour, we would recommend visiting a professional who can discuss tones that would suit you and help you achieve the perfect look!

Blunt Bob

A collarbone-grazing blunt bob is easy to style and super on trend. A sharper, blunt finish on the ends adds thickness and volume to fine hair and can also soften thick hair. This is definitely one on this list that is easier to maintain and adjust to your personal preference.

These are by far our favourite trends for summer 2019 and unlike some others (e.g. the super straight trend) don’t require a huge amount of hair damage. That being said, we’re aware that some would require a bold decision to switch up your style but life is too short not to experiment – be brave and have a go!
