Tom Holland thinks fame is a “balancing act”
At 28, Tom Holland is one of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars. His role as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming(2017) catapulted him to international fame. Yet, he admits that handling celebrity life is a delicate balance. On the Dish with Waitrose podcast, Holland shared how he manages fame without losing himself.
Fame, according to Holland, requires constant awareness. However, he avoids letting outside opinions shape who he is. “You have to be aware of what’s being said, but you can’t let it change you,” he said. “People say, ‘Don’t change,’ but I think change can be good.”
He emphasized adaptability. “It’s about being flexible and adjusting to the moment,” he explained. Holland uses a personal mantra to set boundaries: “If you have a problem with me, text me. If you don’t have my number, you don’t know me well enough to have a problem with me.”

Holland revealed that fame impacted not just him but his family as well. “We never sought this life,” he said. “It just happened. My parents and brothers have had to adjust along with me.”
Despite these challenges, Holland chooses to focus on the positives. “Fame brings so many great opportunities,” he shared. “You just have to weigh the good against the bad. The good things always win.”
Social media often amplifies negativity, but Holland has learned not to let it affect him. “I see things said online and think, ‘You’d never say that to my face.’ So, why let it ruin my day?” he said.
This perspective helps him maintain emotional balance. Holland keeps his focus on the real-world relationships that matter most.
Today, Holland navigates fame with a mix of gratitude and determination. While fame wasn’t a goal, he embraces it as part of his journey.
