The bestselling romance novel ”Funny Story” is set to be adapted into a film.

January 24, 2025- As outlined in Variety, Funny Story is a novel by bestselling romance author Emily Henry. Published in April 2024, the novel became an instant success (here).  For instance, the book debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times and USA Today Bestsellers lists (here).

According to Deadline, the novel follows a children’s librarian Daphne, who breaks up with her fiance Peter after he tells her he’s in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Forced to find a new place, Daphne becomes roommates with the equally heartbroken Miles, Petra’s ex-boyfriend. However, Daphne and Miles end up creating a fake dating scheme to make their ex-partners jealous.

According to Elle, Henry herself is writing the script. Moreover, the author will also be acting as executive producer along with Jon Rosenberg (here). In addition, production companies Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company are involved (here). However, details such as director, cast members, and release date have not been confirmed (here). 2025 is set to be an exciting year for film fans, with many looking forward to a variety of releases such as Wicked: For Good. Funny Story is not the only adaptation of Henry’s work that fans are looking forward to, since her success with Beach Read in 2020 (here), the author has received three different film adaptation deals and a Netflix TV show deal (here).

In a recent interview with Elle, the author stated the following regarding her experience with the film industry.It is a challenge to go from publishing—where I feel like, with my team, I’ve proven myself; they trust me, and they trust my viewpoint—to then a totally new world where I feel like I’m there to be the representative of my readers,she said.
