Moonlight director Barry Jenkins ties the knot with The Farewell director Lulu Wang.

December 13, 2024– As outlined in Entertainment Weekly, the two directors held a private ceremony before confirming the news to People magazine. Jenkins has completed the projects Moonlight and The Underground Railroad. Jenkins confirmed to the magazine at the premiere of his latest film, Mufasa: The Lion King. In addition, the two have been romantically linked since 2018 and had their first appearance as a couple at the 2019  Academy Awards.

In his statement, Jenkins stated the following. “It feels good, man,” he said. “You know, we’ve been together for quite some time. We do the same thing, and when I started this project, she was very heavily involved. You know, and then sort of, like, convincing me to at least consider reading the script.”

As outlined in Perth Now, the two directors have kept their romance largely out of the spotlight. However, both the directors have expressed gratitude for being with someone within the same field, for instance. Jenkins has stated, “I think when you do something that’s very strange — which, I think directing movies is strange — it’s really wonderful to go home, and there’s someone there who also does the same thing,”. “So they understand all your weirdness and all your strangeness, and they can help you navigate it.”

In addition, Wang has expressed the same sentiment and has stated that the two creatives often lean on each other for support. For instance, the director stated, “We’re not showing every version of the script, we’re not showing every cut of the film, and it’s so we pick the right moment where we really feel like, ‘Okay, I’ve done everything. I’ve used everybody, and now I’m really stuck or I feel like I don’t know what else to do’. Then I have him come in or he has me come in.”
