Although “Outer Banks” is set in North Carolina, many of the scenes were actually filmed in South Carolina! These are neighbouring states that share similar landscapes which is why it was a perfect fit to film many of the scenes in the Southern state.
The Lighthouse
Location: Hunting Island Lighthouse, Saint Helena Island, South Carolina
The lighthouse is a classic spot in the show, it takes part in being a very important clue in season 1! This spot further instills the symbolism of hope and security as the discoveries here led the gang closer in their hunt! Not to mention, the Hunting Island Lighthouse looks surreal and beautiful, it is definitely worth the visit. Stop by it to help ground you near the water!
The Waterfront
Location: Shem Creek, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
This was where most of the boating scenes were filmed, which is a crucial competent of the entire series. The characters get by on the water and boats are used in every season whether the gang is getting chased by the Outer Banks police, if they are simply doing their usual adventuring or on the quest for the long lost gold!
The Date at Chapel Hill
Location: Washington Square Park, Charleston, South Carolina

“The Kooks” Territory
Location: The Kiawah Island Golf Resort, South Carolina
“The Pogues” and “the Kooks” have been rivals for many years. “The Kooks” territory was where the entitled rich kids would stay, whereas in real life it is a luxurious golf resort. There are many moments in the series where “the kooks” would go on “the pogues” territory and initiate problems. Of course, when “the pogues” did it back on “the kooks” territory for revenge, it was far more entertaining to watch as “the kooks” cried over their ‘ever-so-precious’ territory. Although “the kooks” are the ‘bad guys,’ their side is a very lavish place to visit and who wouldn’t want to see the lifestyle on this real-life golf resort?
All of these locations classify the “Outer Banks” settings in different ways; they can be used for a romantic getaway, an epic lighthouse view, a waterfront with everything you need and a top-tier golf resort. Which location best suits you and what you like doing on vacation?
