Dennis Basso has been designing clothes in New York for over 35 years, showcasing that craftsmanship and artisan skills can create fine luxury. Creating fashion in New York has always been about luxury, innovation and modernity, something that both New York and Dennis Basso have in common.

This year’s fall/winter 2021 collection is inspired by menswear, from the shapes to the fabrics, to the pieces themselves. Menswear is known to have specific fabrics like cashmere, velvet and plaid, all of which are showcased through Dennis’s collection. This collection takes the idea of menswear and adds a woman’s touch of flare to it in its tailoring.

Many of the outfits are focused on the base of outerwear with the flare of furs, like mink and chinchilla, all of which combine to create a collection that combines evening and daywear. Many of the pieces that really stand out in Dennis’s collection are the coats or throws, many having accents of fur or fur as its entirety.

The idea of taking womenswear and having it inspired by menswear is a notable thought. Women’s fashion has made a turn from dresses and skirts onto one of blazers and trousers. Keeping the idea of sexy, these more masculine looks have gotten a feminine flare to them, and it is all in the tailoring. Clean lines, silhouettes, fitted and flared all accentuate a woman, and allow her to express her power while in a suit. Along with the patterns of plaid or the texture of velvet creates an outfit and a whole collection inspired by men’s clothing.

Elegance also comes in the idea of monochromatic ensembles. Dennis has used specific powerful colours like reds, beige, greys and brown to highlight the fabrics, the furs, and the woman themselves. With everything in Dennis’s collection relating to the idea of New York fashion for the ages, everything this collection embodies represents New York and all of its elegance.
