Woman Finds Dead Husband In Home

A woman in Illinois has found her husband’s body after he went missing for eight months. Richard Maedge, 53, was discovered by his wife, Jennifer Maedge, in a hideaway closet in their home. Richard had disappeared on April 27, 2022, after calling his wife to inform her that he was leaving work early. His wife, Jennifer, could not locate him after returning home, where she found his car parked outside. The police conducted two searches of the house, but they could not locate Richard. It wasn’t until Jennifer was getting Christmas decorations from a storage area behind a clothes cupboard under a staircase that she found her husband’s body on December 11, 2022.

Madison County Coroner’s Office confirmed last week that Richard had died by suicide. During the autopsy, no evidence of foul play was found. Kelly Rogers, the chief deputy coroner for Madison County, told reporters that the body was in a mummified state and might not have had a strong odor, which could be why it took so long to find. The police had noticed a sewer-like smell in the house that could be as a result of the house being a hoarder’s home.

Jennifer held a funeral for Richard in January and told reporters that it’s not entirely suorsiing t

she understood why the police had missed Richard’s body because they wouldn’t have known about the hidden closet, and the smell wasn’t overpowering.
